Jamie Lynn Resneck-Buehner, MAT, MFA, English Teacher

I created this page, my “Professional Teacher Bio,” for my own class assignment while updating my teaching credentials in Alaska, but have found this site useful as a kind of living document as I have navigated now three school districts. So welcome!

I’m Jamie Lynn Resneck-Buehner, “Ms. B” to students, Mom to Imogen, eight, a third grader, and Ansel, six, a first grader.

I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT): Secondary Education degree at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau in May of 2022. Prior to that, I earned my Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing degree at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in May of 2011, and my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English at Winona State University in May of 2000.

These days I am in the final stages of earning my California Teaching Credential and hope to start a new teaching job here in California for the 2025-2026 school year.

On a personal note, I met my husband and the father of my kids while traveling in Marrakech, Morocco, in 2013. After traveling around West Africa, including backpacking around Mali and into Burkina Faso, we lived for two years in Istanbul, Turkey, and for two years in Bonn, Germany. We got married in May of 2016, and our daughter Imogen Charlotte was born in Bonn on September 12th.

In December (that same year!), we moved to Juneau, Alaska, to follow a job my husband had been offered at the radio station KTOO. I was allowed to keep my Bonn-based job editing the English version of Deutsche Welle’s website while my kids were babies. We lived in a 600 sq. ft. cabin, and then a rental in town, before purchasing our first home in Douglas, Alaska, in February of 2018.

Our son Ansel Emmett (aka “Beeb”) was born in Juneau on May 9th, 2018.

I was still telecommuting in 2020 when the pandemic began. I decided to go back to school for my Master of Arts in Teaching at this time, when Imogen was four and Ansel was two. I felt ready to use some of my energy again to work outside the home, and teaching was the only thing that struck me as fulfilling since having become a parent.

I had just gotten my first full time high school teaching job in Alaska when my dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. During one of our daily talks on my way driving to school, I decided I could not be far away during this time. We moved to Wisconsin for what would be the last 21 months of my dad’s beautiful life. I felt blessed and honored to be with him during this time.

During the 2023-2024 school year I taught English Language Arts (ELA) at Fond du Lac High School in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; 2022-2023 at Oshkosh West and Oshkosh North high schools in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and in 2021-2022, at Yaakoosge Daakahidi High School in Juneau, Alaska.

In June of 2024, we relocated to California, same coast but quite a bit south of where we had been living in Juneau, and where we have the most family. I currently work in the front office at Monte Rio Union School in Monte Rio, which is where my kids attend.

I have been writing and publishing poetry and prose off and on since 2007, and writing has always been an important way to understand what I think. A list of my publication credits can be found here; there will be more to come.

Thank you for reading.

Jamie Lynn
