I created this page, my “Professional Teacher Bio,” for yet another class assignment in my Master of Arts in Teaching program, but now there is some distance from that experience, I have found this site useful as a kind of living document. So welcome.
I’m Jamie Lynn Buehner, Ms. Buehner or Ms. “B” to students. I’m a mom to two very awesome, very blonde, kids: Imogen, six, a first grader, and Ansel, four, a preschooler. I’m also a traveling high school English Language Arts (ELA)/English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher at Oshkosh North High School and at Oshkosh West High School in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
To begin with the most recent, I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT): Secondary Education degree at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, Alaska, in May of 2022, and my Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing degree at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in May of 2011. I completed my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English in May of 2000, putting me at a degree roughly every ten years.
I met my would-be husband and father of my kids while traveling for the second time to Marrakech, Morocco, in 2013. After traveling around West Africa, including backpacking around Mali and Burkina Faso, Jacob and I lived for two years in Istanbul, Turkey, and for two years in Bonn, Germany. Imogen Charlotte Resneck was born in Bonn in September of 2016.
Two very short months later, in December of 2016, we decided to move to Juneau, Alaska, where Jacob had been offered a job at the radio station KTOO. Ansel Emmett (aka “Beeb”) Resneck was born in Juneau in May of 2018. I was still telecommuting to Bonn amid the COVID-19 pandemic when I decided to go back to school for teaching. Imogen was four and Ansel was two, and I felt ready to use some energy again. Teaching was the only thing that struck me as fulfilling since having become a parent.
Though I haven’t had a lot of time to write lately, unfortunately, I have also been writing and publishing poetry and prose since 2007. A list of publication credits can be found here; recent work can be found in UAS’ own Tidal Echoes and in Alaska Women Speak print editions. My chapbook Catalpa (Red Bird Chapbooks, 2016), a second collaboration with artist and Hamline alum Susan Solomon, can be purchased at Kindred Post in downtown Juneau.
